National Library of Virtual Manipulatives
National Library of Virtual Manipulatives:
Wendy showed me this website today - it has virtual math manipulatives (perfect for smart boards!) sorted by grade level and topic. It was really helpful with visualizing shading in fractions of geometric areas.

Bedtime Math
I heard a segment on NPR that spoke about a mother who gave her children mental (or not) math problems at bedtime each night. Here is the link to the NPR segment: http://www.npr.org/templates/archives/archive.php?thingId=157644780
The math problems help her children focus and settle down. When her friends showed interest in sharing the same practice with their children, she (Laura Overdeck) created a website. Here is the link to the Bedtime Math website: http://bedtimemathproblem.org/about-us/how-we-started/
This is aimed for young and older children and there are two or three levels presented each day. I might implement this each day with my class as a morning warm-up. Given the variations, Ms. Overdeck presents, I can differentiate for skill levels. Another possibility is to sell this idea to parents, but I suspect that children with enriching home environments would be involved, but children with little academic support at home would not. I want to reach all my students.

Explore Lessons | LearnZillion
Explore Lessons | LearnZillion: Teachers around the country are building a bank of common core lessons - sorted by topic and grade level. So far, they have math lessons posted for grades 3-12 and they are sorted by domains and standards. LearnZillion started at the E.L. Haynes Public Charter School - it combines video lessons, assessments and progress reporting. You can add lessons by standard, assign them for homework, and be notified of your students' results after they take a post homework quiz. You can also differentiate instruction for students who are above or below grade level.

Making Mathematicians
Author Holly Young's website Making Mathematicians: offers free lessons, activities, constructed response questions that can be used in Math, English and Science (writing prompts), probability & statistics lessons and activities and more! I've used the WritingFix website for getting ideas for language arts lessons - it would also be a good site to check out if you are looking for some writing across the curriculum ideas.
